Jagstang Done Right Guitar Routing Templates

  • $60.00

While a cool concept, I don't think the Fender Jagstang (or Jag-Stang) really lived up to what was intended. Fender produced it very literally from Kurt Cobain's concept sketch, which was faithful, but not aesthetically pleasing to a lot of people.

Here is a set of templates that takes a different spin on things. Paul Rhoney (the original template set designer) dubbed it the "Jagstang Done Right", and I have to agree with him. It combines the outline of the Jaguar with the lower horn of the mustang for a cool new vibe. The pickups are replaced with Wide Range Humbuckers, and a toggle switch hole in the pickguard allows for quick pickup switching. The Jazzmaster/Jaguar style of floating vibrato is used, which many prefer to the Mustang vibrato. Overall it captures a different look and feel than the original.

This template set includes a main body template, neck pocket template, pickguard template, and control plate templates.

The body and neck pocket templates include registration holes along the center line. If you use screws to hold the templates to the wood you’re routing, the holes will help keep everything lined up between templates. They are located so that the holes will be hidden under the pickguard.

Recommended dimensions and routing depths are:

  • Body Thickness: 1 5/8"
  • Neck Pocket Depth: 5/8"
  • Pickup Cavity Depth: 1"
  • Switch Cavity Depth: 1 3/8"
  • Volume/Tone/Output Cavity Depth: 1 3/8"
  • Vibrato Cavity Depth: 1 3/8"
  • Bridge Thimble Hole Depths: 1 3/16"
  • Roundover Radius: 7/16"

Needing the matching metal rhythm circuit control plates and main control plates to go with the templates? I have them available at the links shown.

I also carry the matching neck template as part of a set, for those wanting to build their own neck.
