Mustang With Extras Guitar Routing Templates

  • $80.00

This model debuted in 1964, as the successor to the original Duo-Sonic. Marketed as a student model, it featured a 24" scale length (or a less popular 22.5" scale length). Widely used by many indie and alternative bands in the early 90s, it has remained popular to this day.

This template set includes a main body template, neck pocket template, and two different pickguard templates. The main body template is representative of the classic design, but also includes an extra cavity for a toggle switch as well as the option to use a Jazzmaster style vibrato, à la Bilinda Butcher from My Bloody Valentine.

One of the pickguard templates is faithful to the original design, but has an added optional hole for a toggle switch. The other pickguard has more of a Strat style design, but uses Jaguar pickups. The matching neck pocket template has Jaguar sized routing cavities included on it if you choose to go this route.

This special version of the template set also includes additional pickguard cutout templates for standard humbucker, P-90, Jazzmaster, and Wide Range Humbucker pickups.

The body and neck pocket templates include registration holes along the center line. If you use screws to hold the templates to the wood you’re routing, the holes will help keep everything lined up between templates. They are located so that the holes will be hidden under the pickguard.

Recommended dimensions and routing depths are:

  • Body Thickness: 1 1/2" (1 5/8" if using a Jazzmaster vibrato)
  • Neck Pocket Depth: 5/8"
  • Pickup Cavity Depth: 5/8"
  • Switch Cavity Depths: 1 1/4" (1 3/8" if using a thicker body)
  • Volume/Tone/Output Cavity Depth: 1 1/4" (1 3/8" if using a thicker body)
  • Mustang Vibrato Cavity Depths: 1 1/4"
  • Jazzmaster Vibrato Cavity Depth: 1 3/8"
  • Bridge Thimble Hole Depths: 1 3/16"
  • Roundover Radius: 7/16"

Needing the matching metal control plates to go with the templates? I have them here.

I also carry the matching neck template as part of a set, for those wanting to build their own neck.
